85 per cent of Canadian clean technology companies require zero government subsidies and are set to compete in $3 trillion global industry according to Canadian Clean Technology Coalition Ottawa, ON – Canadian Cleantech Summit October 27, 2011:85 per cent of Canada's clean technology companies require no subsidies, are globally competitive, and are situated in what promises to be a $3 trillion industry by 2020. These findings from a major industry report are being released today at the second annual Canadian Cleantech Summit being coordinated by the Ottawa Centre for Regional Innovation (OCRI). BioAmber Wins ICIS Innovation Award for Best Business Innovation Minneapolis, MN Oct 17, 2011 - - BioAmber, Inc. has been awarded a 2011 ICIS Innovation Award, winning the Best Business Innovation category for the development and commercialization of its biobased succinic acid platform. BioAmber joins an elite group of past winners that includes Huntsman in 2010 and DSM in 2009. BioAmber becomes only the second company to have won the prestigious ICIS Innovation and the EPA Presidential Green Chemistry Challenge awards in the same year. Major Tenant Coming to Bioindustrial Innovation Centre Pilot Plant WOODLAND BIOFUELS INC. Woodland plans to be the first client to sign up for a spot in the newly renovated laboratory and pilot facilities on Modeland Road. The Research Park is nearing completion and commissioning of their technology incubator, which includes six tenant labs, a Shared Services analytical lab, 2,800 ft2 of low-bay pilot space, and 3,400 ft2 of high-bay space. A new exhaust system, ventilation, drains and floors, lab furniture and other amenities await prospective start-up or established companies engaged in the commercialization of biomass-derived technologies or processes. Funding for this facility was partly by Ontario's MRI, as well as through a $15 million grant with the federal Centres of Excellence for Commercialization and Research. The facility is a joint effort of Sarnia and Lambton County. |

State-of-the-Art Analytical Facility Focused on Industrial Applications of Biomass The shared services lab at the Bioindustrial Innovation Centre is now open for business. The shared services lab which will be maintained and operated by CENNATEK will provide technology developers with access to analytical expertise and state-of-the art analytical facilities. CENNATEK is a privately held company that provides contract R&D and consulting services primarily focused on the needs of the biofuels, bio-based lubricants and specialty chemicals industry. With a long history of Research Laboratory development, operation, and management CENNATEK will be maintaining and operating this state-of-the-art facility and will provide services to the Bioindustrial Innovation Centre, its tenants, and the industry beyond. CENNATEK provides the full spectrum of tests for biodiesel fuel blend stock (B100) as outlined in ASTM standard D6751. A variety of other liquid fuels, oils, lubricants and their bio-based counterparts could be analyzed for various characteristics. The lab also provides a full-range of analytical capabilities in support of biomass combustion, gasification, and pyrolysis technologies including: proximate analysis (moisture, ash, volatile, fixed carbon, calorific value, and sulphur) ultimate analysis (moisture, ash, C, H, N, S, and O), Chlorine content, mineral ash analysis (percent oxides of Al, Ca, Fe, K, Mg, Na, P, Si, S, and Ti), ash fusion, bulk density.
